BASIX, the Building Sustainability Index introduced by the NSW Government, is a residential building rating methodology that certifies homes are designed to achieve greater ecologically sustainable design ( ESD ) outcomes. A legislated requirement for all new residential developments in NSW; the BASIX assessment is a web based tool that is used by building designers, engineers and owners to certify their designs are in compliance with established energy and water efficiency targets.

The Assessment

The BASIX assessment accounts for your designs location, orientation, building fabric (external materials), glazing, internal constructions, air-flow, hydraulic systems and energy sources to predict how well the home will perform in terms of resource efficiency and thermal comfort.

For more complex home designs it is often necessary to provide thermal modeling in order to demonstrate compliance. Under the BASIX certificates program, National Home Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) compliant thermal modeling software may be used to analyse home designs and certify their ability to meet energy and water efficiency targets.

BASIX Certificates

Build Sustainable assists Developers, Designers and Home Owners to understand the relative value of each building element in terms of BASIX certificates benchmarking, and certifies compliant designs for submission to local Council. We are members of the Australian Building Sustainability Association (ABSA) and certified to provide full thermal modeling capabilities using NatHERS accredited software.
